% Body Fat is a poor indicator of heart attack potential. Find out what is

A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, based on UK Biobank data reports that the simplest and most accurate way to predict your chances of future Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is your height to waist ratio. Better than BMI, total body fat (BF) and waist circumference. The results showed linear results meaning there isn’t a sudden risk cut off, the more fat you have around your middle, the higher the risk, the less fat you have around your middle, the lower the risk.

The study defined a waist larger than 50% height as high risk and lower than 50% height as lower risk.

E.g. If I have a 32” (80cm) waist and I am 5’8” (174cm), I do 80/174 to get 0.45, putting me in the lower risk category. All you need is a tape measure.
